Registration & LSAT

Registration & LSAT

This section will be especially important to review carefully, as here we’ll discuss how to best prepare for the LSAT, and how to register with the Law School Admission Council, a central processing agency that gathers all your relevant materials for your law school application.

The LSAT

The LSAT is a standardized examination that is given four times a year (February, June, October and December). It’s an aptitude test consisting of five 35-minute multiple choice sections designed to measure Reading Comprehension, Analytical Reasoning, and Logical Reasoning, followed by a thirty minute writing sample. The LSAT is scored on a 120-180 scale. This exam is the most important single component of your entire law school application.

LSAT Preparation - Study Guide, and When to Take the LSAT (Important Page!!!)

Law school candidates can attain a copy of the LSAT & LSDAS Information book for comprehensive information (registration deadlines, fees, fee waivers) regarding the LSAT. The LSAT & LSDAS Information book is updated annually and copies are available in the Pre-Law Resource Center in 108 Norton Hall.

The LSAC

The LSAC is a nonprofit corporation whose members are law schools in the United States and Canada. For additional information on the Law School Admission Council, visit www.lsac.org.

Your Online LSAC Account

Your online LSAC account includes practically every form and application document required to register for law schools, including recommendation forms to applications themselves. The flow-as-you-go technology allows candidates to answer common questions only once, select the schools to which they want to apply, and lets the program place the answers in the proper fields. Candidates can then send completed applications electronically to LSAC for transmission to the law schools, which is increasingly becoming the preferred method to applying to schools.

Law School Forums

Each year, the LSAC sponsors Law School Forums in seven major cities across the United States. The forums provide prospective law school students with opportunities to speak with representatives of the American Bar Association (ABA) approved law schools and also obtain admission materials, catalogs, and financial aid information. Students can also attend workshops featuring experts on career paths in law, financing a legal education, the application process, and minority issues.

Official Guide to Law Schools Database

The LSAC web site provides an elaborate database of all ABA-approved law schools with very detailed information pertaining to each school. More information about this can be found on pages 16 and 17 of this guide.

Law School Books, Videos, and LSAT Prep Materials

The LSAC has a variety of books and videos available for purchase, which can help candidates in choosing a law school particularly suited to their needs and to learn more about careers in law. Candidates can also purchase various LSAT preparation materials from the LSAC. For additional information on the publications, please refer to the LSAC web site.

LSAT/LSDAS INFORMATION BOOK

The LSAT/LSDAS Registration & Information book is updated annually. The books are available in the Pre-Law Resource Center (108 Norton Hall). Most forms found previously in this document have been integrated into your online account.
